Submarine

Feature Film | GBR 2010 | 97' | Subtitled

A TV comedian makes a splash on the big screen. Richard Ayoade is primarily known for his role as Moss on the British cult sitcom, THE IT CROWD. SUBMARINE, his debut as a motion picture director, is an indication that he may well become a British Wes Anderson. Like that American director, Ayoade combines great visual ingenuity with an affectionate portrayal of eccentric characters. Oliver Tate is the name of the protagonist in SUBMARINE. The 15-year-old boy from Wales is both a little too precocious for his age and full of energy. He keeps drawing up plans to put the world back in order. He wants to liberate his father from depression, keep his mother away from a dubious self-help guru, and then, of course, he also has to win the affection of his big love, Jordana – though she isn’t much into romance. One of the most rousing teen films in recent years. Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys contributed the soundtrack.
