Package the News! – New Forms of Reporting

in cooperation with WDR – Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln

In the digital age, journalistic reporting is not a one-way road anymore. Through tightly woven networks, news can be spread around the globe in the blink of an eye. It can originate in a Tweet from the Tahrir Square in Egypt or in Facebook messages sent out shortly during the earthquake in Japan. Modern journalists and factual programme makers have to integrate these multiple feeds into an adequately balanced reporting. Often working under enormous pressure, they have to select, verify and present the tidings. In this lecture will give an insight into the trends in current affairs and news programming and will discuss how the modern tools of gathering and covering can be used to deliver high quality journalism.
