In der Überzahl

TV-Movie | DE 2012 | 67' | OV

Danish businessman Stig is kidnapped at gunpoint by a young man in his car. He tries to talk down his fierce abductor, who wants him to drive to several schools in the vicinity. It’s the beginning of a psychological duel on an endless, dead straight country road, including a hitchhiker, a toilet break and constant power games – until Stig has to risk his life in order to stop the shooter. The German TV format Das kleine Fernsehspiel introduces its first batch of four one-hour crime thrillers. The first one of those, directed by Carsten Ludwig, is a nerve-shredding and intimate story about a man and his short encounter with evil. Two brilliant performances by Ulrich Thomsen and Max Mauff manage to pin the audience to their seats, although there’s really nothing more to see than two people driving in a car, sometimes exchanging absurd small talk. A special mention should also go to Dirk Dresselhaus’ music and Stefan Ciupek’s camerawork, which combine to great atmospheric and disturbing effect.
