Val Kilmer has become a revered guru, alternatingly preaching in a community centre about sex, money and salvation, riding around on his bike or hanging out with Rachel Korine in front of the PlayStation. A solitary scientist builds himself a gigantic time machine in order to look into the past but always gets nothing but marginal details, all the while fighting off a tax collector and his brash neighbor. And a group of Eastern European hipsters wander around an evacuated town, waiting for a natural disaster to destroy them. The directing triumvirate of Harmony Korine, Aleksei Fedorchenko and Jan Kwiecinski have imposed upon themselves some bizarre specifications – the result was this omnibus film, one of the most experimental films in recent years. The three episodes – linked only vaguely via the titular theme – are atmospheric, ambivalent, fascinating and unforgettable.
