Long synonymous with raw materials, carnivals, samba and football, Brazil has since established itself as a global player. Brazil is now the world’s leading food producer and corporations such as oil multinational Petrobras, aircraft manufacturer Embraer and meat processing giant JBS are also leading international names. In recent years, millions of Brazilians have entered the public fray – as voters, as consumers and as citizens. 40 million people have escaped from the clutches of extreme poverty and the majority of the Brazilian population now belongs to the middle class. With their sights set on better things, they are taking to the streets to make their point. The film combines the story of Brazil’s economic upswing with a vivid account of the life of Dilma Rousseff, who was a guerrilla during the military dictatorship – and who is now offering to talk with the demonstrators.
