More Jesus

Documentary | DE 2013 | OV

MORE JESUS tells the story of the preacher Edmund Sackey-Brown from Ghana who sets out to build a mega-church for 5,000 attendants in Germany’s Ruhr valley region. A mission that appears to be futile and foolhardy, given that the number of believers in this country has been dwindling since the 1960s, and some churches have closed down for good. For Sackey-Brown and his LIGHTHOUSE parish of about 500, the re-Christianization of Germany starts in a supermarket in the town of Mülheim an der Ruhr: the parish, which consists mainly of African immigrants, has bought the building of the former Edeka store to convert it into a mission center. The team led by directors Hendrik Lietmann and Matthias Tränkle has observed the project from the planning stages to the opening of the center, and reports about an ambitious and charismatic preacher who did not fail to impress the two filmmakers either.
