The Honourable Woman

Mini-Series | UK 2014 | 90' | OV

As a daughter of an Israeli-British business tycoon Nessa Stein practically was born into the bloody Middle Eastern conflict. From the murdering of her father before her eyes thirty years ago up to a kidnapping in Gaza eight years past she has a complex case history. All the more reason for all sides for desperately trying to find out where her real loyalties and alliances lie, when she becomes the appointed heir of the immense family business. And not only her family is curious, but also the international secret service community. And traitors are all around her. This eight-part Mini-Series, co-produced by the BBC and the Sundance Channel, is a subtle spy thriller about the private and the political, which not only because of its topicality made a big splash on both sides of the Atlantic. Writer, producer and director Hugo Blick doesn’t shy away from complexity, while at the same time keeping the suspense on nail-biting levels. Maggie Gyllenhaal meanwhile once again demonstrates her masterful ability to humanize multifaceted, mysterious characters.
