When New Zealand radio and television reporter David Farrier discovers clips of »competitive endurance tickling« on the Internet, he is sure to have found a fun theme for his show. Wrong by a long shot. Even in the early stages of research, threats and lawsuits are thrown his way by a Los Angeles production company. The homophobic language makes the letters Farrier receives particularly bizarre –after all, the videos of buff young men in sports attire who are tied up and tickled are clearly meant for a gay audience. Even when three lawyers at once show up in Auckland to put pressure on Farrier, he and his colleague Dylan Reeve are not intimidated. They go to the United States to explore the mysterious videos and the company behind it – and encounter a wall of silence. When their investigative tenacity eventually pays off, they reveal the grim truth that is truly stranger than fiction.
