Icaros: A Vision

Feature Film | USA, PE | 91’ | Spanish OV with English subs

American terminal cancer patient Angelica travels to the Amazon jungle searching for a miracle cure. She finds a community that consumes the psycho-active Ayahuasca plant and meets other »passengers« who try to overcome their drug addiction or stuttering here. For Angelica, it’s the start of a psychedelic trip into a world between waking and dreaming, between vision and reality, and between life and death. Based on the experiences of co-director Leonor Caraballo, who succumbed to her own cancer illness before the film was finished, ICAROS tells the story of a woman desperately searching for herself. The fascination with the incredible wildlife and plant life in that region, that the protagonist shares with the filmmakers, are complemented both visually and audibly, by dream sequences that go even into documentary and animated footage. The result is a truly unforgettable trip into the heart of the jungle and into the heart of the characters.
