»Yes, Sir! aye-aye, Sir!« Voices are kept down here only for prayer. From the first second onwards, future US Marines must get used to being yelled at all the time. With no voice-over commentary, and keeping strictly to the perspective of a new recruit, this film depicts every-day life in a US army boot camp: forced marches, cleaning duty with a toothbrush, and again and again roll calls with loudly bickering superiors. All this is aimed at systematically stripping the soldiers in training of their individuality, and EARS, OPEN. EYEBALLS, CLICK. consequently makes no effort to attribute any personal characteristics to its protagonists. The corps is the star.
