Kreutzer kommt

The death of a nightclub singer calls for the eccentric police detective Kreutzer. He finds a classic set-up à la Agatha Christie, with suspicious hotel guests and staff. Anybody here’s got something to hide, and Kreutzer gets to every single one, whether he has to flatter, provoke, charm or threaten them. He doesn’t even care if he gets his nose bloodied – he would do everything to stay within his personal time limit of just over four and a half hours to solve any case. TV star Christoph Maria Herbst shows all of his many facets in this crime show pilot scripted by crime veteran Christoph Jeltsch and directed by TV specialist Richard Huber. His performance is a firework of ticks, quirks and moods. Rosalie Thomass as his assistant lovingly preparing his sandwiches holds her own next to this whirlwind. The result is a whodunit with poetical and political moments, with rapid twists and turns as well as fleet-footed comedy. This investigative team holds a lot of promise for tragedy and comedy and, most importantly, for many happy returns. But after this impressive start it’ll be exciting to see if there is any more room for improvement.
