Arcade Fire: Scenes from the Suburbs

Shortfilm | USA 2011 | 30' | OV

A group of youths fight with more than the usual pains of coming of age: They’re stuck in a dystopian future, where counties and communities not only surround themselves with fences but wage open war against each other; where trigger-happy masked special forces patrol the streets; and where the estrangement towards the parental generation is all the more understandable, as they behave like inhuman machines. It’s no wonder one of the boys slowly starts to lose it… He’s already a apart of the Hollywood mainstream, due to film like BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, but Spike Jonze has never forgotten his roots as a skateboard and music video director. His 30 minutes drastic youth portrait – based on the Arcade Fire album »The Suburbs« with all the paranoia of a societal catastrophy this band brings to the mix – is a new mixture of atmospheric short film, engaging album promo and multiple music video with a message.
