Hell on Wheels

TV-Series | CAN 2012 | 2x45' | OV

After the shock at the end of season one, where Bohannon believes to finally take revenge for the murder of his family, just to then find out he killed the wrong man, the ex-civil war soldier and current gunslinger finds himself on the wrong side of the chaotic struggle for America’s soul: as a train robber. But his dream to thus finance a quiet life far away from all this quickly die when he meets Elam and is confronted with his past. With a broad ensemble of characters, from the Irish-American railroad tycoon down to christianized Native American and from the black »security advisor« down to the priest with a drinking problem, HELL ON WHEELS draws the complex picture of a deeply traumatized society with big dreams and even bigger nightmares. Beyond all Western clichés these characters don’t act out of lofty ideals but follow all too human drives, hopes and fears. A stark and brooding vision of history, with no clear hero or villain.
