Grand Central

Feature Film | FR 2013 | 94' | Subtitled English

Love in the shadow of death. Unskilled labourer Gary takes a job at a French nuclear power plant. He finds himself joining a community of co-workers that has its own rules and is characterized by a very strong bond between its members. No wonder: mutual trust is vital in a workplace where anyone’s error can expose them all to a harmful dose of radiation. Gary betrays this trust when he gets to know his colleague Toni’s beautiful fiancée. Love and radioactivity – powerful invisible forces that can do good or wreak destruction. Based on this unusual analogy, Rebecca Zlotowski infuses a realistic study of this working world with romantic motifs in her second feature film, GRAND CENTRAL. The movie is easily carried by the two outstanding main actors: Léa Seydoux (BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR) and Tahar Ramin, who is also due in cinemas soon as the star of Fatih Akins “The Cut.” Even at a young age, both have the radiant charisma of classic movie stars, but their characters still remain credible throughout.
