A Fábrica De Nada

Feature Film | PT 2017 | 176’ | Portuguese, French with English subs

When their factory’s machines have been moved out one night, the workers dread bad news. The owners plan to relocate the production to another site. But they didn’t expect the workers’ resistance: They refuse to just get laid off and occupy the factory instead. Portugal currently produces the best and most original movies about globalisation and industrial crises – just think of Miguel Gomes’ celebrated six-hour film ARABIAN NIGHTS. Pedro Pinho’s A FÁBRICA DE NADA won the International Critics Award in Cannes with half the run-time, but is similarly unpredictable: starting out as a neorealist drama and turning into a sweeping class warfare musical.
