The right casting is half of a successful film, and Vera knows it, too. The still inexperienced 40-something director has gotten the chance to remake Fassbinder’s THE BITTER TEARS OF PETRA VON KANT for TV, but she can’t decide on a lead actress. While she’s wearing down one candidate after the next, it’s only acting foil Gerwin who manages to quiet things down a bit – until he himself gets his hopes up for scoring a lead role. Nicolas Wackerbarth’s biting backstage satire about the power plays on a movie set was for the most part improvised. But no risk, no gain: German acting icons Victoria Trauttmansdorff, Andrea Sawatzki and Andreas Lust have never been better.
