Hamburg, 1973. A widely circulated glossy magazine gets turned upside down with the arrival of a new editor: Zarah Wolf is determined to turn the magazine and the whole country around. But as a modern woman in a reactionary world she has to struggle not only with hostile colleagues but also with a complex love life – including a former girlfriend who’s part of an underground terror network. Abortion and East-West conflict, free love and Rock ‘n’ Roll, stuffy offices and militant feminism: This MAD MEN-style German series does not only chronicle a turbulent era nostalgically, but also uncovers the institutionalised machismo of the times. It’s a look back in anger at some battles that were won – but also a stark reminder that the fight is still happening today and far from over.
