War has been raging between Ukraine and Russia for years. The establishment of Russian separatist areas in eastern Ukraine and Putin's open war of aggression that followed are escalations of a long-simmering political and military conflict. It is perhaps unsurprising that many had anticipated these horrific developments. Ukrainian director Valentyn Vasyanovych's 2019 sci-fi film ATLANTIS is set in a post-war scenario in 2025. In Vasyanovych's version of the story, Ukraine won. But what is left of his country is a wasteland.
