AWARD WINNER 2019: EASY LOVE – LINO RETTINGER

JURY STATEMENT:

“We’re honoring this film because it’s a brave experiment. Courageous because it dares to bring amateur actors in front of the camera, of whom you never know whether they play themselves or lend their lives a role. This enables director Tamer Jandali to skilfully break down the genre boundaries between documentary and feature films. The lifelike opening of the actors poses the question of what love means in times of social media and the dissolution of traditional relationship structures. He succeeds in taking a condensed look at a new generation of women who live and love in a self-determined way and are confronted with the limits of social, but also of their own demands. Never voyeuristic, never embarrassing – but much more respectful and charming, sexuality is the subject of discussion and life. The film captivates with its excellent camera, its montage, the sound design, the sovereign use of light and thus gains a lightness without losing depth.”
