20.000 DAYS ON EARTH
From junkie punk to Renaissance man: Who would have thought that the scrawny singer of a self-destructive Melbourne punk band (The Birthday Party) in the genre’s early days would come to be at the height of international acclaim thirty years later: as an author, screenwriter, occasional actor, and, of course, musician. A conventional rock documentary would hardly do justice to this dazzling protagonist with a penchant for self-mythologization. British filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard have therefore opted for a seamless blend of reality and fiction. One of the best music films of the last decade.
