A LAND IMAGINED

Detective Lok is searching for two workers employed by a construction company, who have been missing for a week. The company's boss is less than cooperative, and it's no wonder: on Singapur's construction sites workers from China and Bangladesh are being treated like modern slaves. Lok's research leads him to an internet café run by the tough and pretty Mindy. Wang, one of the missing men, has spent his many sleepless nights here. But is Wang even real or just of the detective's imaginations? Siew Hua Yeo's stylish neo-noir, with hints of both neo-realism as well as mystery thrillers, has won this year's Golden Leopard award at the Locarno Film Festival.
