BLACK WATER

There are many films warning of Earth’s ecological collapse, but none like BLACK WATER. With its spectacular images of the rain-shrouded megacity of Dhaka, Spanish filmmaker Natxo Leuza’s film sometimes resembles a BLADE RUNNER-style dystopia, but at the same time it is an activist documentary calling for climate justice. At the center of the film are two of the projected 20 to 30 million people who will flee from the coast inland by 2050 in Bangladesh, which is slowly sinking into the water—probably the largest migration in human history.
