"Alcohol is your paramedic in times of need", as Herbert Grönemeyer once said. He is not only supposed to help the four frustrated teachers at the centre of Thomas Vinterberg's DER RAUSCH to get back in front of their pupils with motivation. As level drinkers in a self-designed ‘scientific experiment’, they see themselves as a kind of avant-garde of a new upbeat, tipsy society. Martin (Mads Mikkelsen) in particular, who has become frozen in routine, suddenly blossoms. A surprisingly moving social satire about everyone's favourite drug, without pointing a finger.
