„Alcohol is my paramedic in times of need“, German popstar Herbert Grönemeyer once sang. For the four frustrated teachers at the centre of Thomas Vinterberg’s DER RAUSCH it is supposed to get them motivated in front of their students again. Constantly inebriated in a “scientific experiment” of their own design they see themselves as the vanguard of a new juiced and jolly society. Especially the once depressed Martin (Mads Mikkelsen) is newly energized. A surprisingly moving and un-preachy social satire about everyone’s favourite drug.
