FIRST COW

A trip to Oregon’s pioneering days, where the first settlers put up their tents searching for gold and hunting beavers. Among them are the Chinese immigrant King-Lu and his buddy “Cookie” Figowitz, who want to profit from the prospecting boom. FIRST COW’s charm lies in the manner in which Kelly Reichardt (CERTAIN WOMEN) develops a whole portrait of a society from a simple fraud scenario involving a cow. Instead of the rough-neck masculinity you usually get served in the Western genre, this movie is dominated by gentleness, cautious optimism and melancholia.
