Many documentary films fight against the West forgetting that there still is a civil war raging in Syria. Waad al-Kateab's und Edward Watts' award winning film might just be the most effective reminder and could even turn out to be the defining document of this conflict: the idealistic video diary of a young student turns into a desperate mother's harrowing war chronicle, dedicated to her baby daughter. It doesn't pull any punches, but it also finds beauty and hope amidst all the horror.
