HYSTERIA

During the filming of a feature film about the xenophobic 1993 arson attack in Solingen, a Koran is accidentally burned – or is there more to it than that? In any case, the footage disappears under mysterious circumstances. Several members of the team come under suspicion. The second film by Cologne-based Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay (ORAY) is, on the one hand, a gripping whodunit thriller and, on the other, a clever condensation of debates about migration and religion within the microcosm of a film production. The atmosphere of general mistrust is almost palpable.
