On a shopping trip to Poland, Sylvia loses the plot after an argument with her stepchildren, Lea and Konstantin, and abandons them in the Polish no man’s land. When she returns later to collect them, the children have vanished. A modern retelling of HANSEL AND GRETEL where the aesthetic is cool and austere, the stepmother isn’t wicked and the witch isn’t a woman. Hochhäusler made MILCHWALD as his graduation project at the HFF, Munich, his next films I AM GUILTY and THE CITY BELOW were part of the Cannes official selection.
