Russian-born David studies at a Jewish university in mid-80s New York. The literature of James Baldwin, a beautiful bartender in the East Village and his friendship with an older gay couple lead David to the gradual realisation that he feels attracted to men, too. In his feature fiction debut, documentary filmmaker Eric Steel tells the subtle and elegant story of a self-discovery that is both sexual and intellectual, while in the background both the AIDS crisis and the traumatic legacy of the Holocaust go on.
