South Africa 1981: Nicolas is drafted into military service to defend his racially segregated homeland against the „back peril” and communism. His superiors revel in the humiliation of recruits that are barely of full age, and soon Nicolas has a target on his back, too: the slur „moffie” comes up, Afrikaans for „faggot”. A film whose depiction of military subjugation and homo-erotically charged situations are reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick’s FULL METAL JACKET and Claire Denis’ BEAU TRAVAIL.
