ONE CHILD NATION

Between 1979 and 2015 China enacted their infamous “one child policy”, dishing out draconic punishment to any family with more than one offfspring – with “excess children”, mostly girls, either forcibly removed and taken into state homes, abandoned or even secretly killed. In her Sundance-winning documetary Nanfu Wang returns to her home village inquiring about the effects of this brutal experiment. She finds a society still reeling with apathy, shock and denial while she tries to clear up her own family's history in those dark times.
