PRIMITIVE DIVERSITY

Even at over 90 years of age, Alexander Kluge, perhaps Germany’s last universal genius, continues to prove himself an experimental collector of images and stories – most recently with the help of artificial intelligence. The title refers to the “primitive” early cinema of the years up to 1929. Similar to this, he sees his film as a means of comfort in difficult times: “One must not deny or gloss over the bitter reality. Comfort, as it belongs to the concept of cinema, is based on something that film can do by its very nature: it is a play of light. ‘Light comforts in the night.’”
