Henry Best is a middle-aged insurance salesman, bald and gay. When he finds himself attracted to some younger colleagues while his steady relationship of nine years spectacularly implodes, he has to manage an exiting and confusing new foray into Manchester's gay scene. With CUCUMBER, Russell T. Davies has created a quasi-successor to his legendary series QUEER AS FOLK – again delicately balanced between drama, comedy and fearlessness. But this time around, there's more: Besides the main series on Channel 4 there is also the more versatile story collection BANANA on the associated E4, where some supporting characters from CUCUMBER step into the spotlight and the focus widens to a panorama of the Manchester's entire LGBT community. Together with the documentary series TOFU on 4oD this constitutes an unprecedented project of three programs closely related by plot and theme, spread out over three different channels. We screened the first episodes of both CUCUMBER and BANANA.
