SEA OF SHADOWS

The vaquita whale is about to go extinct – less than 30 specimen of this smallest of whales remain. Researching this issue, the Austrian documentary filmmaker Richard Ladkani (THE IVORY GAME) uncovers an outlandish chain of causes and effects for these mammals' decimation: Chinese snake oil medicine has a role to play, Mexican drug cartels and the million dollar business of smuggling the totoaba fish's swim bladder. This eco-thriller documentary was co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and won the audience award in Sundance.
