No biopic, but a psychological profile of an exceptionally gifted writer. For her new film, Josephine Decker (MADELINE’S MADELINE) practically burrows into the head of Shirley Jackson ("The Lottery"). Suffering from writer's block and several other psychological ailments, she tries in the early 1960s to work on a novel about a disappeared student. Elizabeth Moss is sensational as the bitingly smart author who terrorizes her surroundings in order to hide her own vulnerability.
