A powerful long-term observation of young soldiers in barracks at the edge of the Russian Federation.  Paul Jenkins (A CRY FROM THE GRAVE) shows the deterioration of an army that was once the pride of the USSR.  It took six months of research on location before the team received permission to film in all extensive facilities that had been off limits to their cameras until then.  The result is an equally disturbing and stirring document of the time, particularly the uncommented portrayal of soldiers’ hazing rituals, which reaches the bounds of what is reasonable.
