The “German Autumn” is at the centre of this two-part docudrama that became one of the defining German TV events of the 90s. The fall of 1977 started with the kidnapping of industrial leader Hanns Martin Schleyer and established the Red Army Faction as a symbol of left-wing terror in the minds of Germans. While the first part is mostly a dialogue-heavy chamber piece, mixing interview footage with re-enacted scenes, the second part celebrated action worthy of the New Hollywood, as the dramatic hijacking of the plane “Landshut” to Mogadishu is put front and centre.
