Nana Neul’s DAUGHTERS, winner of this year’s Manfred Stelzer Award, starts with a difficult task: Martha is supposed to take her father to Switzerland, where he wants to die. Martha can’t do this alone, so she recruits her best friend Betty to be her support – or rather, her co-driver. In this melancholy road movie Alexandra Maria Lara and Birgit Minichmayr portray these women, these daughters, travelling south and trying to come to terms with themselves and especially with the relationships to their fathers.
