The abduction of Jan Philipp Reemtsma in 1996 shook the nation. This film by Hans-Christian Schmid (REQUIEM) is based on the book of Reemtsma’s son: Like a fly on the wall the 13-year-old Johann Scheerer watches in growing distress as his mom is falling apart emotionally and their home fills up with lawyers, policemen and counsellors. The subtle yet powerful central performance by Claude Heinrich (DARK) perfectly suits this restrained, but intensive drama that perfectly captures a sensational crime as seen through the eyes of the family members torn between hope, despair and helplessness.
