Their hearts are beating for Galatasaray: ULTRASLAN is one of the world’s biggest ultra fan groups in international football – but it’s more than just a fan club, it’s a way of life: they find each other jobs, celebrate their weddings, help with moving apartments – and find a common identity that transcends national borders. Ümit Uludag’s documentary follows three members of Ultraslan’s German division not only to the big matches but also into their private lives, where they have to square their families and daytime jobs with their commitment as fans. The result is a fascinating and rare look into a Turkish-German sub-culture built around male bonding, rituals and solidarity, as well as a contemplation of important questions regarding migration and integration.
