Overnight, an East German border patrol unit cuts off a village in Mecklenburg from the East and opens it to the West. No one knows whether this move is a provocation or a mistake. The new West German citizens have to make major adjustments, for advertisers of Western consumer society quickly offer them new party membership books, insurance policies, and trips to Majorca. This film, which fictively anticipates German reunification, won the gold Grimme Prize. With its precise portrayal, it seems like a déjà vu of the real events of 1989. The events in Dubrow are framed by an escalation of political activities, commented on with a lot of archive material from previous political events. None of the 60 actors were a well-known face on TV at the time due to East Germany’s lack of credibility.
