How it is said, though, is sometimes pure invention.” Already this first text on the screen of this two-parter makes clear how difficult it is to do justice to the left-wing SPD politician Herbert Wehner (1906-1990), who both played a major part in establishing the “German Unity Day” and was infamous for some remarkable profanities. With this patchwork film of black-and-white re-enactment scenes and interviews in color Breloer nevertheless manages to accomplish the impossible.
