Marco Tullio Giordana explores a 34 year slice of recent Italian history, inviting the viewer to take part in the life of the Carati family from 1966 to 2000. Dispensing with checkered tablecloths, spaghetti and singing gondoliers, he weaves personal stories and the era of great upheaval together in a dense 400 minute epic that doesn’t shy away from big emotions.
