Film Award NRW - Justine Triet

Justine Triet was only the third woman to be honoured with the Palme d'Or in Cannes in May for her feature film ANATOMY OF A CASE. A film that can be understood as a reflection on #metoo, on public accusations, suspicions and charges - and yet is too unique to swim on a thematic wave. In Triet's fourth feature film, it is not a man who is accused, but a woman named Sandra. She is played by Sandra Hüller, with whom she has filmed for the second time and who perfectly embodies Triet's complex view of role models.

In Triet's previous film SIBYL (2019), Hüller plays a director whose reality slips away from her; in ANATOMY OF A FALL, she is a German writer whose husband falls from the balcony of a chalet - murder, suicide or misfortune is the question that is ultimately heard in court. But much more than a clear answer, Triet is interested, as in all her films, in what happens behind the surface, in the view that the court and the public have of Sandra - a not always likeable woman with secrets. Triet's films do not necessarily provide answers, but ask questions, even uncomfortable ones, and therein lies their special quality.

Justine Triet was honoured with the Cologne Film Prize, which was donated by the City of Cologne and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. The laudatory speech for Triet was held by exceptional actress Sandra Hüller.
