A Childhood from 1939 to 1948«, in which he describes his memories of Nazi concentration camps, was a worldwide best-seller. It was translated into twelve languages and served as the basis for three films. But then the story of Swiss author Daniel Ganzfried, plausible in itself, was just as plausibly refuted. Is Wilkomirski a swindler who was able to take in even highly placed representatives of the Jewish community? Is the figure of "Wilkomirski" just the »product of a creative act« (Ganzfried)?
