The War Zone

Tom is 15 and smack in the middle of puberty. Together with his parents and his 18 year-old sister Jessie, he has just moved from London to the tranquil but equally boring Devon countryside. Here his mother gives birth to the family's third child. But the peace in the family is deceptive. Tom thinks that there is more to the relationship between Jessie and her father than just normal parental affection. When he discovers the hideous truth, the catastrophe takes its inevitable course. The British actor Tim Roth makes his debut as director here with a family drama that could not possibly be more merciless in its treatment of the subject. A film of shocking immediacy and stylistic clarity. Roth, one of his generation's most impressive character actors, has made a name for himself chiefly in American films.
