SUSPIRIA

SUSPIRIA is not your ordinary remake, but a smart re-writing of Dario Argento's brightly colored 1977 witch horror classic. Luca Guadagnino moves the plot from Freiburg to a gray, divided Berlin, with the terrorism and paranoia of the German Autumn playing out in the streets outside. Dakota Johnson is starring as a delicate US dancing student entering the dance academy lead by Tilda Swinton. While Guadagnino slowly ramps up the sect-like competitive pressures of the school, he also keeps an eye on the outside. The horror of SUSPIRIA comes from the uncanny interplay between history and myth that Guadagnino brilliantly combines with his usual visual verve.
