"Legend" is derived from the Latin word legere, "to read, to pick up". More than almost any other sound artist in Germany, Schmidt has picked up a wide variety of musical elements along the way: classical music, which he learnt about as a composition student and pupil of Stockhausen in Cologne, as well as influences from jazz and rock, which showed him the way during a kind of satori experience in New York in 1966.
According to Schmidt in the interview, he has no grand plans for the future. When making music, just as in life, it is important to give space to spontaneity: Let it happen.
