We spoke to Steve McQueen about his stirring BBC series UPRISING. In it, he lets survivors and relatives of the victims of the New Cross Fire in London in 1981 have their say. At the time, 13 black youths died at a house party. In his documentary, the filmmaker (SHAME, 12 YEARS A SLAVE) reconstructs the dramatic events as well as the tendentious investigations of the English police. In the interview, he calls for a joint fight against contemporary racism and not to underestimate right-wing tendencies in Europe.
