Isenhart
In cooperation with ProSieben
In the 12th century young foundling Isenhart is granted an education by a rich patron. As blacksmith and free thinker he falls in love with the noble Anna. After Anna is brutally murdered the political intrigues culminate in the destruction of Isenhart's home castle. But when several years later he finds an identical case of murder, the young man sets out to solve the mystery with the help of his mentor Walter and his friend Konrad. The investigation takes him through half of Europe, to the edge of contemporary theology and science – and right towards the secret of his own identity. Award winning author Holger Karsten Schmidt adapted his own novel into a rousing event movie directed by Hansjörg Thurn as a German-Austrian co-production. The Dark Middle Ages we see depicted here in muted colors decidedly live up to their name, from the near-infanticide in the first scene to the victims with their hearts cut out. Luckily there are not only fire, blood and swords at work here but also the protagonist's razor-sharp mind.
